Mold Medic - How Property Owners Can Effectively Clean up Mold
Steps for Proper Mold Remediation (clean-up)
Proactive Treatment (Mold and Mildew Prevention)
- The key step in the prevention of mold growth is to eliminate
moisture. Completely dry all contaminated areas (use fans, dehumidifiers,
and/or air movers). This step must be completed within 48 hours
of water infiltration. If flooded by gray water, (sewer or
flood waters) area must
be dried within 24 hours.
- After drying, spot-treat contaminated areas with Mold Medic
Disinfectant Spray. Monitor area and repeat if necessary.
Reactive Treatment (Active Mold and Mildew Clean-up and
Removal)
- In area's where mold growth is active, first use Mold Medic
Encapsulator. This product works by encapsulating the mold spores;
preventing them from spreading though out the premises during
the clean-up process.
To remove the residue, use a hepa or filtered vacuum or just
wipe clean with a damp cloth after allowing encapsulating foam
to dry (approx. 20 minutes
after use)
- Next, thoroughly clean and scrub contaminated area using Mold
Medic Disinfectant Spray to kill any surface mold and inhibit
new growth for the next 28 days. (Note: If not just topical you
may be required to
remove contaminated material such as drywall, boxes, insulation,
etc., contain in plastic bag and discard. Monitor and repeat
process until no visual signs
or musty odors exist.
- If area of contamination is exposed to high moisture levels
regularly (i.e. basement walls) we recommend sealing with our
line of anti-fungal protective coatings. These products will
kill and inhibit the growth of
mold and prevent a reoccurrence as well as treating areas that
may have been missed in the remediation process.
- An effective,
preventative maintenance program can be easily practiced by
re-treating problem areas
every four weeks. All areas should be monitored regularly and
your nose is the best tool for detecting future problems.
